Travel Tips – Conquering Singapore from Food to Sightseeing

Singapore is Asia’s international business hub and one of the most unique and iconic destinations for food indulgence and sightseeing.

When I traveled to Singapore back in 2020 just before the pandemic, I had only one thing on my mind – food. Singapore is one of the best countries where you can enjoy the most flavorsome, mouth-watering dishes at pricepoints so low it should be illegal!

Try Singapore’s Iconic Salted Egg Crab!

One of the most talked about flavors of Singapore is what is known as “salted egg.” It is made from a process involving the soaking of duck eggs in salt water solution (brine) for 3 to 5 weeks, resulting in a rich, potent flavor and an oily egg yolk.

Salted egg crab is a national favorite in Singapore, encompassing a large deep-fried crab marinated with a creamy paste mix made from salted egg yolks. Served with side dishes and condiments like steamed buns, peanuts, and leafy greens, it’s a kingly feast you’ll remember for a lifetime!

Explore Singapore’s Awe-Inspiring Architecture!

Singapore is renowned for sporting some of the most unique and visually aesthetic architecture in the world. The photo you see above is what they call “Supertree Groves,” an architectural initiative that incorporates a harmonious blend between trees and man-made towers. The idea is to preserve nature and demonstrate the possibilities of eco-friendly and sustainable man-made structures.

In addition to their environmentally friendly architecture, the country is also home to the famous Marina Bay Sands SkyPark building, which features a cool surfboard design. On the rooftop is the Skypark Infinite Pool that overlooks Marina Bay at 191 meters above ground. Beside this is the stunning ArtScience Museum with its lotus flower architectural design which gives the whole Marina Bay area a distinctive personality.

Hawker Centres – The Pride & Joy of Singaporean Cuisine

One of the resons Singaporean cuisine is so easy to conquer in just a few days is due to the existence of Hawker Centres. These establishments feature a semi-open-air food court designed like a street market with countless pop-up stalls set up wall-to-wall from one another. Hawker Centres make it super convenient to try all of Singapore’s best dishes from mouth-watering laksa to refreshing ice kachang (shaved ice and bean dessert).

A key element of Hawker Centre food is that the dishes are relatively small, making it ideal for trying a range of dishes in one sitting rather than just a single meal. There is something for everyone here, whether you’re after a full-course meal of Hainanese chicken and rice or simply a refreshing tea drink, Singapore’s Hawker Centres have you covered!

Good Old Universal Studios!

Impressively, Singapore is one of just four countries to have its own Universal Studios theme park, alongside Japan, China, and the USA. There’s always plenty of fun to be had at this iconic haven of fun, from exhilarating roller coaster rides to interactive 4D experiences. You may want to prepare some extra clothes and a towel for the water rides and the highly recommended Water World show!
