Exploring Melbourne’s Mouthwatering Food Culture Bite-By-Bite

Melbourne is often mistaken for the capital of Australia, and no wonder! The city is regarded as the food (and coffee) capital of the nation!

Australia might not have a rich food culture on its own (except the odd kangaroo steak!), but they’ve certainly done an incredible job in welcoming food cultures from all around the globe! Seriously, there is no cuisine you can’t find in Australia, and Melbourne being the food and coffee hub of the country, it’s the perfect place to start your foodie adventure.

Hip Brekky Joints

K-Street Seoul Toast is a perfect example of how seamlessly international cuisines have integrated into Melbourne’s foodie culture. My companions and I were racking our brains as to what to eat for breakfast when we stumbled across an interesting Korean sandwich joint. A delicious bulgogi beef sandwich with cheese, onion, and an egg omelet, and a side of Melbourne’s world-renowned flat white was the perfect combination to start the day!

Il Tempo – The Best Italian Food In Town!

You know an Italian restaurant is the real deal when something as simple as a cheese pizza becomes a core memory of your trip to Melbourne. Known for its traditional recipes and modern vibes, Il Tempo is a must-try when visiting Melbourne’s European-inspired Degraves Street. In addition to pizza, they serve up tasty pastas like creamy chicken fettuccine and even have a “non-Italian” menu of scrumptious burgers and fries.

Roadside Malatang

When it comes to Asian cuisine, Melbourne really is one of the best in the world. In fact, many Chinese folk advocate for the quality of restaurants here that match those from the Motherland. For instance, this roadside malatang restaurant got the thumbs up of approval from my good buddy Ian Zheng, an expert food reviewer in Chinese cuisine. What I love about Melbourne’s food culture is the importance placed on aesthetics, from the dishes to the seating area, looks and vibes are just as important as taste!

Grazeland – The Foodie’s Playground!

As its name suggests, Grazeland is quite literally a big outdoor food complex where people gather to graze on food from all over the world. Whether you want a Mexican taco with a side of Indian chicken tikka or a Turkish kebab with some American fries, it’s easy to mix and match at the Foodie’s Playground! They even have a dedicated “Sweet Street” where you can indulge in mouthwatering chocolate-covered churros or an Aussie classic Froot Loops shake!

An All-Round Good Time!

You can’t go wrong with a trip to Melbourne! From the awesome restaurants and cafes to the architectural excellence of traditional Victorian buildings and, of course, the annual Australian Open tennis, there really is something for everybody!
