The Australian Open offers an Electric Tennis Atmosphere!

Melbourne City is home to Rod Laver Arena, a stadium honoring one of the most legendary tennis players in Australian history and the world.

In the glory days of Australian tennis, a man named Rod Laver took the world by storm when he won the Calendar Slam, that is, all four Grand Slam majors in a single year, twice. A record yet to be broken even by tennis’ “Big 3” Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, it is indeed among the most difficult feats to accomplish, even just one Calendar Slam, let alone two! As such, it is most fitting that the largest tennis stadium in Australia pays homage to the tennis immortal that is Rod Laver.

Awesome Vibes Even During COVID!

The year was 2022, and the effects of the COVID-19 lockdowns were still very much present. While social distancing had started easing up, the wearing of masks was still largely enforced, and it was difficult to get around with a vaccination certificate. Despite the somewhat miserable circumstances, the atmosphere at Melbourne Park was still as lively as ever, with food stalls, mini games, and souvenir shops in full operation! I took the opportunity to buy an awesome orange T-shirt with the Australian Open logo on it, while the wealthier crowds would splurge on the Ralph Lauren tennis goods.

The Stadium of Legends

Seeing Rod Laver Arena for the first time in person was quite surreal. Having grown up watching the Australian Open on TV for the last couple of decades and being a tennis player myself, I felt goosebumps seeing the place where so many legends of our sport had done battle. Whether it was the famous 2012 Grand Final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic or the iconic 2017 Grand Final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, it’s safe to say some of the best 5-set matches in tennis history took place in this very stadium!

Electric Atmosphere at Rod Laver Arena!

Needless to say, the atmosphere at Rod Laver Arena was absolutely electric, and no amount of COVID lockdowns was going to stop that! A quarter-final blockbuster match between Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime got the Aussie crowd so hyped up that you’d think there was an Australian player on court! I could only imagine how loud and wild it would get if a home favorite like Nick Kyrgios or 10-time (9 at the time) Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic were out there.

Grab Those Tickets Now!

So if you’re still hesitating about doing the Australian Open someday, then stop! You only live once, and sometimes you need to leap before you look and book those tickets! Personally, I’m looking to attend the 2027 Australian Open next year for a chance to see the GOAT Novak Djokovic in action before the claws of retirement finally close the curtain on his magical career run.
