Taiwan may have its roots in China, but it certainly takes after Japan in many aspects, for example, its amazing 7-Eleven stores!
Taiwan is home to some of the most delicious foods I’ve tasted in all of Asia. From its vibrant night markets to its unique street foods, the country is known for having some of the best convenience store foods right up there with Japan and Korea.
Awesome Sandwich & Rice Varieties!
Everyone always raves about the amazing egg sandwiches at Japan’s 7-Eleven and Lawson, but few know that Taiwan offers an equally mouth-watering selection, too!
Not only that, but the choices of rice-based foods offer unique items that you simply won’t find in Japan or Korea.
From onigiris to rice rolls and an extensive baked goods section, all perfectly stocked and neatly presented – it’s easy to see how Taiwan rivals the best convenience store chains in the world!
Incredibly Potent Chinese Flavors
Indeed, the rich flavors of Chinese cuisine can truly be felt in some of these items, particularly the sesame oil chicken rice ball, my personal favorite!
Unlike typical rice balls and onigiri, this one is designed to be eaten hot, and for good reason!
Packed with rich savory sauces and sesame oil with incredibly juicy tender chicken pieces perfectly wrapped in steamed sticky rice, the only way to eat it is nice and hot so the flavors meld together beautifully.
Onigiri – Same But Different!
What is truly incredible about 7-Eleven Taiwan is how they still have many of the same items you’d see at a Japanese FamilyMart, just with a Taiwanese twist!
For instance, the tuna with onion & celery onigiri is an interesting deviation from the typical tuna and mayo onigiri offered in Japanese stores.
Unbeatable Frappes!
Not to keep comparing with Japan, but truly Japan’s FamilyMart frappes were something I thought could never be beat, at least as far as convenience stores can offer.
However, the selection of frappe flavors at Taiwan’s 7-Eleven stores will truly have you drooling in anticipation!
Super easy to make in-store, it delivers incredible richness, consistent texture, and awesome flavor varieties, including cookies n’ creme and KitKat!
